Last night at Webster Hall in New York, scores of hipsters gathered to honor indie music's most happening artists, radio stations, websites, and music retailers at the
Plug Awards. In case you didn't know, Plug is "a collection of music lovers, writers, DJs, webmasters, artists, filmmakers, managers, indie retailers, and most importantly fans, who gather together each year to celebrate the artists who live and flourish in the margins." Each year voting is open to anyone with access to Plug's website. So as opposed to the Grammys, where fat cat industry execs vote in those annoying artists your parents and annoying kid sister listen to, these awards are less likely to make you cringe. Last night's events included live performances by:
Saul Williams,
RJD2,
Aesop Rock,
Sufjan Stevens,
Ted Leo + The Pharmacists, and
Dillinger Escape Plan. From an incredible
