We are hearing quite a bit from
Brian Jonestown Massacre these days. First, there's the release of
DiG! on DVD, which Anton Newcombe addresses on the BJM website:
I was shocked and let down when I saw the end result. Several years of our hard work was reduced at best to a series of punch-ups and mishaps taken out of context, and at worst bold faced lies and misrepresentation of fact.
Newcombe elaborates on what he believes are factual and contextual discrepancies
here. Second, their upcoming album
We Are the Radio will be released in the fall of this year. Third, Newcombe sat down with Entertainment Weekly recently and, never one to disappoint, said the following:
What I want to do is enter the popular lexicon. Like Jimi Hendrix. That's my goal. Not to sell soap. Not to say, 'look like me, dress like me, sound like me.' Not to get a supermodel girlfriend. None of that shit. I want people to come away from what I'm doing and look at it as a gift.
Oh, and then there's this...
People talk about Eric Clapton. What has he ever done except throw his baby off a fuckin' ledge and write a song about it?
For the pure entertainment value, someone should work on setting off a rap style sparring match between Newcombe and Liam Gallagher.
Finally, Brian Jonestown Massacre recently announced a string of live dates in the UK and North America. The tour will begin on June 11 at Patti Smith's Meltdown Festival in London. For the six UK dates following the festival, BJM will open for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. BJM's North American Tour will include a set at this year's Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago.
