Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme has pleaded no contest to two counts of misdemeanor battery stemming from an attack on
Dwarves singer Blag Dahlia at a November 2004 Dwarves show at
Dragonfly in LA.
According to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Superior Court, Homme was placed on summary probation for 36 months. Homme was also ordered to do community service with the Hollywood Beautification Team, enter a 60-day residential drug/alcohol rehabilitation program, complete a level three anger-management class, foot all of Dahlia's legal and medical bills, stay 100 yards away from Dahlia and the Dragonfly nightclub, and not possess deadly weapons. Court records do not indicate what he will be treated for in rehab. In exchange for Homme's no contest plea, charges for battery and assault with a deadly weapon were dropped.
The November 2004 incident was reportedly part of an ongoing feud involving Nick Oliveri, who Homme enticed away from the Dwarves to play for QOTSA and then later fired. The lyrics from "Massacre," off of last year's
The Dwarves Must Die, seem to be directed toward Homme: "This one goes out to Queens of the Trust Fund/You slept on my floor/And now I'm sleeping through your motherfucking records." Oliveri guests on the track.
According to witnesses at the scene, Homme went into the backstage area at Dragonfly and poured a bottle of beer over Dahlia's head while singing, "Whatcha gonna do?" A shoving match then ensued and Homme smashed the bottle over Dahlia's head. Dahlia was taken to a Hollywood medical center for treatment, but only after he played the show. Homme was kicked out of the club by security, but police were not notified until Dahlia reported the incident one month later.
Homme is required to appear at the Hollywood Courthouse, Division 79, on July 27th to prove that he enrolled in both anger management and rehab programs.
Side note: I love QOTSA, but I wish the plea agreement included a promise by Homme to reform Kyuss. Now
that would be a community service.
