Jonathan Demme's Neil Young Documentary To Open In February

Heart Of Gold, Jonathan Demme's documentary of Neil Young's Prairie Wind concert, will be released February 10 in selected theaters in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Toronto. The film features footage from the two August 2005 performances at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium that comprised Young's first public performances of his Prairie Wind compositions. Young wrote Prairie Wind, the third album of the Harvest trilogy, shortly after being diagnosed with a potentially fatal brain aneurysm. Confronting his own mortality, Young produced, arguably, the most personal recordings of his career.

Having also directed the Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense, Jonathan Demme is no stranger to the concert film genre. In his latest foray into the field, the director who brought Hannibal Lecter to life, documents Young's first live performances of his new material as well as classic songs like "Old Man" and "Comes A Time." The concert footage focuses on Young and his regular touring band but does contain a guest appearance from Emmylou Harris.

The film made the cut at this year's Sundance Festival and will gradually be released nationwide on February 17 and February 24. For those wanting to catch Young live and in person, his only scheduled appearance will come on March 16 as the keynote speaker at this year's SXSW Festival.
