Nominees Announced For 6th Annual Jammy Awards

Relix Magazine and jambands.com announced the nominees for the 6th Annual Jammy Awards which will be handed out on April 20 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Jammys honor artists who thrive in the live music environment and will kick off the inaugural Green Apple Music & Arts Festival which will spread to numerous concert venues throughout the weekend. The Benevento Russo Duo, My Morning Jacket and moe. led the nominees with 3 each. Warren Haynes received an interesting trifecta, receiving an individual nomination in Live Performance of the Year as well as two nominations in Tour of the Year for his travels with Gov't Mule and the Allman Brothers Band.

While ostensibly an awards show, the excitement of the Jammys comes from the live performances which feature unusual and sometimes bizarre collaborations. At least year's show, The Disco Biscuits shared the stage with Travis Tritt and Umphrey's McGee graciously backed Huey Lewis, Mavis Staples and Sinead O'Connor. In past years, Particle teamed up with the B-52s, Solomon Burke, on an oversized throne, joined the Derek Trucks Band and Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell hooked up with the String Cheese Incident.

Already slated to appear at this year's show, Blues Traveler, moe., Steve Kimock, Little Feat, Peter Frampton, Guster, Richie Havens, Savion Glover, Joe Satriani, Stephen Perkins, Martin Sexton and Bela Fleck and The Flecktones. More artists will be announced as the show nears and unexpected and unannounced appearances are the norm.

Frank Zappa will receive this year's Lifetime Achievement Award. Past recipients include the Grateful Dead, Steve Winwood and Buddy Guy. All of the other Jammy Award winners will be determined by the fans who vote for them online.

Actually those are just Warren Haynes' direct nominations. His indirect nominations include the Vegas Phil and Friends show and the California Comes a Time Garcia Tribute. What a wonderful musician, singer and songwriter Warren Haynes is.
