Before life was good to Joe Walsh as a member of The Eagles, he was a member of The James Gang. Most familiar to classic rock fans for "Funk 49," the gang from Cleveland, Ohio had their heyday in the late sixties with a lineup that included Walsh, bassist Dale Peters and drummer Jimmy Fox. Although the band survived after Walsh's 1971 departure, they never neared the success they enjoyed with the eccentric guitarist.
While the band has reunited for individual performances, their longest reunion stint together came in 1998 when they appeared as 3/4 of The Horn Dogs, Drew Carey's band on
The Drew Carey Show. After their story arc concluded, the Cleveland comedian honored the hometown heroes by concluding their last show by simply introducing them as The James Gang and allowing them to close the show with "Funk 49."
The tour will kick off August 9 at the Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado with the Cleveland homecoming taking place on August 16 at the Blossom Music Center.
