The 2005 Jammys introduced Huey Lewis to Umphrey's McGee, a union that lasted well beyond the awards show. Lewis appeared at both of the Midwestern jamband's Irving Plaza shows and on their new album,
Safety In Numbers, striking a connection with the band while becoming their "5th Beatle."
At this year's Jammys, former John Coltrane pianist McCoy Tyner sat in with Bela Fleck & The Flecktones and tap dancer Savion Glover. What seemed like an odd one-off union of classic jazz and modern tap has bore fruit and will continue this week when Glover joins the McCoy Tyner Trio for a weeks worth of shows at New York City's Blue Note Jazz Club. Tyner's apparent bemusement during Glover's give and take with Flecktone bassist Victor Wooten seems to actually have been concentration as to how he would duet with the dreadlocked tap dancer.
