KOCE PBS Airs Sun Studio Sessions with John Paul Keith & the 145s

Los Angeles & Orange County area can see Sun Studio Sessions with John Paul Keith & The One Four Fives tonight at 9pm on KOCE PBS TV "OC Channel."

Signed to Fat Possum's Big Legal Mess label, the Memphis based rockers are joined by keyboardist extraordinaire Rick Steff (Lucero / Cat Power) and run through several catchy songs including “Looking for a Thrill” and “Bad Luck Baby.” American Songwriter praises their “malleable vocals and uncanny ability to whip off catchy gems featuring sing-along choruses with a flair that’s never studied or pretentious.”

The KOCE "OC Channel" can be found "over the air" on Digital Antenna channel 50.2, Charter cable 314, Time Warner 235, and on Verizon Fios 470. Nashville PBS "Sun Studio Sessions" Marathon March 11th

Nashville PBS affiliate WNPT airs an eight episode marathon of Sun Studio Sessions today on NPT "2" (Comcast 241). The first episode airs today at 1pm with Nicole Atkins and the Black Sea.

Nicole has appeared on Conan O'Brien and David Letterman and her debut record hit #20 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. Paste Magazine aptly described Nicole's music as a "unique blend of rootsy-folk and indie rock” and both Time and SPIN magazines named her as best live act at the 2011 SXSW music festival. In this episode, Nicole and band, rock and roll through several songs “Cry, Cry, Cry” and “Vultures.”

At 1:30pm today, NPT "2" airs the Homemade Jamz Blues Band episode. These teenage siblings hail from Tupelo, Mississippi and play delta "hill country" blues well beyond their years. They've been featured on CBS, PBS (Tavis Smiley), NBC, CNN and NPR. In this episode, these youngsters wow with stunning performances including “Burned Down the House” and “Voo Doo Woman.”

At 2pm, NPT "2" airs the Ha Ha Tonka episode. Named for a state park in their native Ozarks, Ha Ha Tonka blend indie rock with traditional Americana in a lively stage show enjoyed by fans coast to coast. Featured in SPIN magazine, the band has showcased at the Sundance Film Festival and MTV’s “The Seven” show recently predicted they’ll be “huge.” In this episode, the band performs “Death of a Decade” and “Usual Suspects.”

At 2:30, NPT "2" airs the Over The Rhine episode. Critically acclaimed Over the Rhine has toured the world and shared the stage with legends like Bob Dylan. Their latest CD features a duet with the incomparable Lucinda Williams and was produced by Grammy Winner Joe Henry. In this episode, the band performs fan favorites like “The King Knows How” and “Oh Yeah By the Way.”

At 3:00pm, NPT "2" airs the Justin Townes Earle and the Band of Heathens episode. Justin is a world touring troubadour who has graced many stages including the historic Ryman Auditorium, the Letterman show and the Bonnaroo music festival. Justin won the Best New and Emerging artist award at the 2009 Americana Music Awards. In this episode, Justin’s performances an ode to his grandfather called “They Killed John Henry” and a haunting accapella cover of “1927 Louisiana.”

This episode also features the Band of Heathens. This Texas based band appeared on the iconic "Austin City Limits" music show and 2010’s "One Foot In the Ether" was in the Top 10 of the Americana Radio charts. In this episode, the Band shows off their impressive range with songs like “Medicine Man.”

At 3:30pm, NPT "2" airs the RailRoad Earth episode, featuring these relentless road warriors who have built a large following playing major music festivals like Bonnaroo. The band combines traditional American roots music with various overlays such as Celtic and Cajun.

At 4pm, NPT "2" airs the Sahara Smith episode. Sahara made her national television debut on David Letterman and recently won best songwriter and best female vocalist at the 2011 Austin Music Awards. The Wall Street Journal writes of her record: "Now 21, her ‘Myth of the Heart’ is getting a royal send-off, shepherded by producer T-Bone Burnett and fed by years of critical rapture.” In this episode, Sahara’s promise and songwriting talent are showcased with song performances like “The Real Thing” and “Lazarus.”

At 4:40pm, NPT "2" airs the Onward, Soldiers episode. A North Carolina based "post-country", Americana rock band with tasteful pop sensibilities, Onward Soldiers have a bright future that is off to a fast start with a sought after feature of their music in the nationally televised show "One Tree Hill." In this episode, the band’s joy in playing together is evident when performing songs like “Let the Time Roll By” and “Telling Nobody.”

As a reminder WNPT "2" can be found over the air (digital antenna) and on Comcast 241. These and the other five episodes of Sun Studio Sessions "Season 3" which also features Grammy and Oscar Winner Ryan Bingham with his band the Dead Horses will air in more PBS markets in the coming weeks and months.
